This is not typically what brings patients into my clinic.
They typically come in for back pain, neck pain, headaches, arm and leg pains.
However, once they hit my door, and are inside of an examination room, usually they then tell me about all the other things in addition to their back/neck pain, that they’ve been having lately.
Ear aches is a common complaint, especially with headache and neck pain patients.
You see, the nerves that feed the ear come down the spinal cord from the brain, then exit the neck bones to the inner and outer ear.
Therefore, many patients that come in with neck pain or headaches as their primary symptom, may also be experiencing ear aches. Some describe being able to “hear better out of one side” than the other.
Many times, when I take a history, I find that surprisingly the neck pain and/or headaches actually began about the same time that the patient began to get the ear problems. Well, in many cases, the nerves are inflammed, and guess what, its the SAME NERVES!!
You see, the SYMPTOMS of the nerve irritation can vary, but many times the cause (inflammation of the nerve at the root ie: at the neck) is the same.
AND….
The good news is although I don’t claim to “cure earaches” with chiropractic adjustments, many times when patients come in with neck pain and/or headaches, and we begin calming their “pinched nerves” by adjusting in the appropriate regions, then not only does their headaches and neck pain resolve, but many times their ear problems also resolve!!
Not a bad side effect of chiropractic, eh!?!
